The Amayzing Workshop
We are part of Amayzing Saddlery Ltd.
Owned and managed by SMS qualified Saddler and Saddle Fitter -Laura Simpson, Amayzing Saddlery is an equestrian business which was founded 11 years ago and includes a tack shop, leather repair workshop, horse rug wash and repair facility and our core business, saddle fitting and saddle sales.
Laura has passed on some of her leather working skills to members of her staff over the last five years. Following a meeting with Tandy Leather Ltd at a conference in 2016, a partnership was developed and the Amayzing Workshop came into being.
We have established a classroom for teaching leathercraft at the back of our equestrian shop and have worked with Tandy over the last two years to develop our skills in designing, preparing and making leather goods including decoration in the form of leather carving and stamping.
We buy our tools and materials from Tandy and are able to offer a discount rate for our students wishing to purchase their own. We run classes and sessions for small groups of adults in an informal and freindly setting. We have full facilities including wheelchair access, a kitchen, toilets and our own car park outside.
Classes are mainly delivered by Frances Simpson who previously trained primary teachers in science and technology for Strathclyde University and the University of the West of Scotland.
Other staff members and helpers are developing leatherworkers and are happy to share their ideas and skills and assist students with their own development.
